A full day adventure combining a wildlife
observation tour, navigating the forested
banks and mangroves close to the estuary
of the Tarcoles River with enough time
to enjoy one of the best beaches of
our Mid-Pacific Coast.
Departure is early: 6:15 a.m. It takes
some two hours to reach our Pacific
Coast. Halfway, there’ll be a
stop to enjoy an energetic breakfast.
Once at the river a comfortable motor
boat will take you through the calm
waters where you’ll be impressed
by the diversity of wildlife present,
specially aquatic birds like storks,
herons, ducks and similar. But the real
stars are the huge crocodiles that abound
in this section of the river. Some of
these fellows can easily reach five
meters or more and have been studied
and filmed extensively by the National
Geographic Society research team. You’ll
be able to see them very closely and
safely and, if possible, even witness
the stunning act in which the boat’s
captain feeds one of them right out
of his hand… unbelievable.
A short ride will take you to the exclusive
Punta Leona Resort where a delicious
buffet lunch awaits you. In the afternoon
you can enjoy the resort’s facilities
and have time to swim and relax at the
two beaches inside the complex: Playa
Blanca and Playa Mantas. If you don’t
want to swim, you can take an optional
guided hiking tour in Punta Leona’s
biological reserve at no extra cost.
Return to San Jose is at 5.00 p.m. and
you’ll be back at your Hotel at
7:00 p.m. approximately.
