One of our favorite Tours, combining coffee plantations, an active volcano, waterfalls, cloud forest hiking, butterflies and hummingbirds, among others.
After an early departure, you’ll stop for breakfast at Doka Coffee Plantation and Processing Plant where you’ll be able to learn about the process of coffee elaboration and off course taste different varieties of premium exportation coffee.
Next stop will be: Poas Volcano National Park. This volcano boasts one of the widest craters in the world, and you can get right next to it and witness the sulfuric fumes as they are carried away by the wind. Hiking the trails of the park’s protected cloud forest is another highlight of this trip.
A short ride will then take you to a dream place: La Paz Waterfall Gardens, where a delicious buffet lunch awaits you while you observe the majestic mountain views from the restaurant area. After lunch, you’ll visit their Butterfly Garden, one of the largest in the country and learn about the amazing life cycle of these beautiful insects.
The Hummingbird Gallery will give you the opportunity of having dozens of these tiny and colorful birds flying all around you as they come to get the nectar from the strategically placed feeders. Their latest attractions are the Aviary, where you’ll see a good number of native birds, and their Frog and Snake Exhibit. Monkeys and Felines have also been incorporated to the vast number of attractions for the delight of visitors. But this is not all: Four spectacular waterfalls invite you to discover them and experience their magic sounds and sights. All this variety in a full day trip and without having to travel long distances. Don’t miss this opportunity.
This Tour Departs from Don Carlos Hotel at: 6:15 a.m. and returns approximately at: 5:00 p.m. Included: Breakfast and Lunch.
We have a shorter version of this Tour, departing at 10:10 a.m. and returning
at 5:00 p.m. It skips the coffee plantation and the volcano but includes lunch and the full visit to La Paz Waterfall Gardens.

One of our newest attractions, located only 1½ hours away from San Jose. Experience some of Costa Rica’s best countryside scenery as you drive through the hills of Puriscal and Turrubares, southwest of San Jose and the lowlands of Orotina, near our Mid-Pacific Coast.
We recommend you to take a snack with you or buy one when you get there, since departure is before 7:00 p.m. and breakfast is not included. Arrival to the Park will be approximately at 9:30 a.m. The entrance to the property is located on a nearby hill and you’ll need to descend to the valley where most of the attractions are located. To do so, you’ll take their funicular ride which lasts 08-10 minutes. Participants who want to add a Short Adventure to their package, may choose to descend either Horseback Riding, sliding along their 07 zip-line Canopy or speeding down on their Sensational Cable. When ready to leave, all participants will return to the entrance taking advantage of the funicular ride.
What you will see and experience at the Park is so varied that we can just briefly mention it: Their large Butterfly Garden, “El Indio Trail” - where you can experience the complexity and incredible variety of a natural tropical rainforest, the Iguana and Crocodile exhibitions, Orchid Garden & Bromeliad Garden. Also, a typical rural farm featuring an organic vegetable garden and domestic animals, the Bamboo & Cactus Collection, the Palm Collection, with species from different countries, the Labyrinth and much more.
This full day tour departs from Don Carlos Hotel at 6:50 a.m. and gets back approximately at 5.00 p.m. A complete typical buffet lunch is included.

This excursion takes visitors to the misty forests of the Talamanca Range, heading southeast of Costa Rica’s Central Valley, in search of one of most beautiful birds of the Neo-Tropics: The Quetzal. Sacred to the Mayan Civilization and admired for centuries, it was an important element in Central American mythology. Mayan royalty wore headdresses with two-foot long quetzal feathers that were removed from live male quetzals.
This private forest reserve, recently transformed into a National Park, and located at 2.600 meters above sea level (7.800 feet) is home to a vast number of species of birds and it’s perhaps the best place to spot quetzals, not only in Costa Rica but in all Central America. Chances of finding them are high throughout the year, but the months between late December and April are possibly the best ones. Participants will most likely enjoy a lovely journey to this unique part of our country.
The Quetzal Tour requires a specialized birding guide, so in order to guarantee that this person is available, we recommend you to submit your reservation well in advance (one month before, or more, is recommended) Departure from Don Carlos Hotel will be at 5:30 a.m. and return should be expected at 3:00 p.m. approximately. Breakfast and lunch are included.
* A minimum of 02 participants are required for this Tour *

An excursion especially designed for nature lovers, without any doubt. Departure will be around 7:30 a.m. and will take you through the vast and magnificent Braulio Carrillo National Park and will continue to the northern plain lands of our country.
Here, you’ll enjoy navigating the calm waters of the Sarapiqui River for over an hour, while you get surprised with the lush vegetation and the richness and diversity of wildlife dwelling along its banks. Next, your tour guide will take you to hike along Selva Verde Lodge’s private forest reserve and its botanical gardens: A nature-enthusiast dream place and a very special location for bird-watchers. A nice, tasty buffet-style lunch will follow your stay at Selva Verde. In the afternoon you’ll be transported to the famous Atlantic Rainforest Aerial Tram. You’ll experience an one hour plus ride on the gondolas that will take you to explore the upper section of the forest from a very close and unique perspective. Witness incredible sights of the rainforest which will never be possible when walking the trails below.
The tram moves slowly and silently along the tree tops so you’ll be able to appreciate the sounds of the rainforest as well. After the tram ride you will also visit their Butterfly Garden and Frog and Serpent Exhibitions. Return to San Jose is scheduled to be at 5:30 p.m. approximately. An excursion recommended for all family members.
